Here's a custom red carpet we provided for the James A. Michener Art Museum. The goal was to create an entry accent that was reusable each year, and that stores in manageable pieces. The carpet add lots of color to the entry, even on a cloudy day.

We also offer Step and Repeat printing and installation, as well as backdrop rentals in all sizes. Our freestanding pipe and base system allows for quick setup and takedown, and you can purchase a custom step and repeat banner to use for future events.

Country Rustic Decor Meets Modern Lighting • Tented Rehearsal Dinner • Far Hills, New Jersey

One of our biggest projects thus far in 2015 is this fun, beautiful rehearsal dinner in the countryside of Far Hills, New Jersey.

Eggsotic provided centerpieces, linens, tent pole decor, lighting, foliage and more for this celebration for 225 guests.

Since the end of June is the week of the summer solstice, this party took place on one of the longest days of the year. This presents a fun design challenge: to create a look that works beautifully in both the daytime and nighttime. 

There were several design inspirations for this design. The bride and groom graduated from the University of Louisville, where the school colors are red, white and black. The groom's family's house has a classic countryside aesthetic. The client loved the idea of the tent canopy transitioning into an abstract night sky as the night progressed. We combined all of these concepts to create this dramatic look:

NYC Marriage Proposal with Custom Art & Floral Decor • Muriel Guépin Gallery, NYC

We've been providing decor and lighting for marriage proposals for a few years now, and they've become one of our favorite types of events. There's something so fun and exhilarating about playing a role in a grand surprise, and being a part of one of the most memorable days of someone's life. This proposal took place in Chinatown at a lovely art gallery, the Muriel Guépin Gallery.

Marvin and Michele, the planners from The Heart Bandits, thought of every detail: a mariachi band to come out after the proposal, "extras" to act as gallery patrons so that the gallery wasn't empty, and a fabric cover to pull away revealing a canvas that reads Casate Conmigo (Marry Me). They chose us to provide a custom printed canvas and two beautiful white floral arrangements.

VIP Fashion Show Fundraiser Lighting • Ferrari of Central New Jersey • Edison, NJ

Ferrari of Central New Jersey hosted a VIP fundraiser for the Michael Fux Foundation, and we partnered with their event team to provide lighting for the event and fashion show.

Michael Fux, whose family came to the US from Cuba when he was a teenager, earned his fortune in the mattress industry. He has amassed one of the largest car collections in the world, and leverages the popularity of that collection to raise money for charities, including the Miami Children's Hospital. He has donated millions to various organizations and created the Michael Fux Family Center, which provides the comforts of home to pediatric cancer patients and their families.

We provided our LED Pixel Tube Display as a high-impact display over the runway.  The LED pixel tubes can create slow, subtle effects as well as fast-paced night club inspired effects. They're a spectacular focal point and made a great addition to the modern, luxurious look of this event.

For the fashion show, we provided low-profile white lighting to illuminate the models and presenters. The LED tubes, light-up runway and white drape backdrop completed the look.

Image Theft in the Event Industry

Event design is, by nature, a collaborative art. If you read through this blog, you'll notice that we often share the task of creating a great event design with florists, DJs, caterers, and entertainment companies. 

We want to share our work with our readers, so we credit the other vendors involved with links, credits and thank yous. Even though the primary goal of this site is to share our own work, we're also happy to share the work of the vendors with whom we collaborate, and promote them in the process. We deeply appreciate when other vendors do the same.

The only times that we truly take offense to the sharing of our images is when other companies use our photos in their own marketing materials when they had nothing to do with the event. 

Here is a photo of our work that we've loved and shared for several years:

This photo was taken by Egil, the owner of Eggsotic Events, at a bat mitzvah at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, New Jersey. Eggsotic Events designed and produced the event. Our services for this event include:

We worked very hard to create this event design, so it was very frustrating to find so many companies claiming this event as their own.

We found out that a company was using this photo in their marketing materials, and taking credit for it as their work. That led to us exploring further and finding several other companies using it as well.

How to Find Out if Your Images Have Been Stolen

All of these sites were found quite easily, and they are all from just one of our images. To see if other vendors have stolen your photos for their own marketing use, do a reverse image search through Google.

• Go to google.com, click Images in the top right corner, then click the camera icon in the search bar.
• Paste a URL of the photo, or drag and drop the photo onto the search area.
• Google will automatically find sites that use that image. If you have the image shared on Pinterest, then Pinterest will come up many times in the listings. 

We are sending cease and desist letters to all of the companies shown above and their sites will be removed from this post once they comply.

Elegant Autumn Bat Mitzvah Lighting and Decor • The Stone House at Stirling Ridge • Warren, New Jersey

In our last post, we mentioned that many of our bar and bat mitzvahs have a "Favorite Things" theme. We love designing parties that convey the celebrant's favorite hobbies, colors, and more.

This bat mitzvah, held in October at The Stone House at Stirling Ridge, had an eclectic mix of design inspirations: 
• Amethyst: the gemstone and the color as well
• Nature, especially trees and moss
• Preservation: eco-friendly materials and reusable, recyclable elements
• Art, especially painting

We've worked extensively with Lori, Jillian's mom, who has planned fundraising galas for several years. She's done a wonderful job creating memorable, elegant events in the past, so of course Jilly's bat mitzvah was no exception.

We partnered with Laura of Laura Clare Designs and Carissa and her team at Stone House to create a one-of-a-kind celebration of all of Jilly's favorite things.

The Ceremony

For the ceremony, Jilly wanted a sophisticated outdoor setting that reflected her love of nature. We used our handmade birch wall backdrop and created a custom birch torah table, which at 5' x 5' makes a beautiful focal point in front of the birch wall.

We lined the aisle with our pewter lanterns, which held our handmade birch wood candle holders. Simple touches, like reusable natural candle holders and eco-friendly soy tealights, added to the environmental preservation theme. We also hung mason jar candle lanterns from the tree and used our battery-powered LED uplights to illuminate the trees in the ceremony area.

The Cocktail Hour

The cocktail hour was held in the tent adjacent to the ceremony area. Since the guests would only be in the tent for a little while, we kept the lighting design simple. Amethyst purple uplighting and pin spots for the food stations made the cocktail tent look cohesive with the rest of the event. Laura Clare's tabletop lanterns completed the look.

The Reception

The reception lighting was bold and elegant, with purple and green uplighting and pin spotting for the centerpieces.

We used live trees and ferns to create an organic feel. We framed the kids' lounge area using ivory drape and portraits of Jilly. It was accented by Jilly's name in moss, provided by the client. 

For entertainment, the family selected a photo booth, silhouette artist, and lots of games. We commissioned an interactive portrait artist to do live interactive painting. Jilly selected an inspiration image, our artist Marcelo created a foundation for the painting, and guests joined in throughout the party to add to the canvas. It turned out absolutely beautiful and makes a great keepsake for many years to come.

Laura Clare created gorgeous centerpieces and selected linens that tied the tabletops into the room decor perfectly.

Unique Bar Mitzvah Centerpieces for an Autism-Friendly Event • Favorite Things Theme • Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, New Brunswick, NJ

We've done creative Bar Mitzvah centerpieces for many years for a variety of themes. We often create centerpieces for a "Favorite Things" theme, where each table reflects a hobby or interest of the celebrant.

For this event, we had a fun and challenging opportunity to make centerpieces for a very sweet boy with autism. He has a diverse set of hobbies and favorite things, including travel, chocolate, gymnastics, penguins, Dr. Seuss, and much more.

We learned a lot about designing decor and lighting for an autism-friendly event. Here are some key points that made this event a success:

• Light Levels: The overall light level in the room should not be too low. We used colored uplighting around the room to introduce color, and pin spotting to highlight the centerpieces. We also used the in-house lighting, which was dimmable, to create a light level that's comfortable but not too bright.

• Kinetic Elements: Each centerpiece should be safe to touch and interact with. When children communicate less verbally, they experience things more kinetically. We chose elements that were safe to touch and play with, and included moving parts to make the centerpieces more experiential. The guests loved walking around each table, taking in the details that make each centerpiece special.

• Color and Variety: We used a wide variety of colors to make the tabletops festive and fun, and more appealing to children. Traditional centerpieces are often very cohesive, and we went in the opposite direction to make them as individually unique as possible.

• Creativity: His interests were not only unique, but also very specific. For example, he loves one specific type of interactive fountains. They're the kind you find at boardwalk amusement areas where water comes up from holes in the ground. We used a variety of materials to convey this concept without using water. We thoroughly enjoyed finding ways to visually represent these interests.

We so enjoyed the opportunity to create such meaningful decor to celebrate a family's very special day. We look forward to participating in autism-friendly events in the future.

Cats are the mitzvah boy's favorite animals, so we created a playful "cats in a tree" centerpiece

The guest of honor loves chocolate, specifically nonpareils, also known as Sno-Caps. We had lots of fun creating custom extra-large nonpareils to represent his favorite candy.

This fun glowing lantern, combined with images and figurines, represented Dr. Seuss, the celebrant's favorite author

Large penguins and tiny penguins on a snowy mountain created a fun centerpiece that guests can touch and play with

The family had recently taken a safari trip, so we gathered our safari animals to represent their vacation experience.

This interactive basketball centerpiece has a rotating foundation with four mini basketball games for guests to play. The guest of honor loves basketball, but it was emphasized that he loves playing it, not watching it on TV. We made sure that this centerpiece reflected that.

NYC Marriage Proposal with The Heart Bandits at the View of the World Terrace Club NYC • Lighting & Custom Decor by Eggsotic Events

Eggsotic Events partnered with The Heart Bandits to create a whimsical, personalized marriage proposal for Natan (Nate) and Caroline at the View of the World Terrace Club in the Financial District of NYC.

Marvin and Michele Velasquez created The Heart Bandits, a marriage proposal and romantic event planning company, and have since planned proposals for clients from all over the world. Their unique line of work has been featured in The New York Times.

Nate's proposal featured a heart that we custom-produced for the proposal. It featured a beautiful love poem that Nate wrote for Caroline, which read as follows:

To my most beautiful and better half!

As I look into the future as far as I can see,
I can see nothing except you being with me.
Through your eyes I only see that you are the one.

I love you since the first moment I saw you
Every time I think about you I see an amazing heart!
In your smile I see you love and your perfection!

You are in all of my dreams whether I'm awake or asleep,
My love for you is so deep that there are no words to describe it.

The Lord has made our paths meet forever.
He has an amazing plan for our lives together.

Today I'm not just telling you how much I love you!

From a production perspective, this event was such an interesting challenge: the logistics of making sure that every detail was perfect, and that our install crew was gone before the couple arrived. Also, every element we used had to be designed to stay safely in place on a windy rooftop terrace.

FAQ Series: Pin Spotting Explained: Why Your Centerpieces Should Have Pin Spots

What is pin spotting?

Pin spots are focused beams of warm white light, projected onto tabletop focal points, such as centerpieces, wedding cakes, artwork, and auction items. Pin spots highlight these elements, making them stand out in photographs and in person.

Pin spots are light fixtures with specialized bulbs inside, that are narrow spotlights (rather than a normal lightbulb, which is a wide angle wash light). The pin spot fixtures are secured to freestanding support hardware, then focused by professional installers to maximize the impact they make. Perfect pin spotting is like an art form, making the tabletop decor elements glow just right.

How are the pin spot lights set up?

Most often, pin spots are rigged to racks, then supported by freestanding pipe and base structures. Additional weight is added to the bases to make sure that these tall, heavy racks are safe near guests. Our team of professional lighting installers deliver, install and focus the pin spots before the event, and uninstall them after the event.

Here at Eggsotic, we also have a pin spot technology that allows us to incorporate pin spots in the existing lighting system of the venue without freestanding hardware. For more information about this, please call or email us.

Do my centerpieces need pin spots?

Here are questions to answer to determine whether or not you need pin spots for your centerpieces:

• Are you having an evening event?

Pin spotting is intended for evening/nighttime events. Or, if you're having a daytime event in a space without windows, pin spotting can still be effective.

We do not recommend pin spots for daytime events in window-filled spaces, as the effect won't be as dramatic as you'd like.

• Are your centerpieces large/elaborate?

If so, you've most likely spent a significant amount of money on each one. A major design mistake we've seen is spending several hundred dollars per table on floral arrangements, then opting out of pin spotting. The centerpieces get lost in the look of the room, and none of your guests can see all of the exquisite details in the flowers.

• Are your centerpieces floral arrangements?

Floral arrangements often need pin spotting in order to be seen clearly in low light. This is especially true if you're including colored uplighting or other light effects.

• Are you using other types of lighting in the room?

You may think that if you're using uplighting and other lighting effects, you don't need pin spots. In fact, the opposite is typically true. The high-end look you're trying to achieve comes from layering different types of light. The uplighting creates a colorful wash, then the pin spots create dramatic focal points and keep the room from looking like one solid color. This combination draws guests' eyes to each beautiful element in the room.

• Do you have lots of candles on each table?

If your centerpiece primarily consists of candles, pin spots aren't necessary. If you plan to use candles as accents, a gorgeous balance of light comes from a pin spot on the floral centerpiece, and 3-6 candles as accents around it. Here's a great example of that look at our Birch Wedding at the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville, New Jersey:

The above photo shows the difference in light level between the centerpiece and the rest of the table. The centerpiece is the clear focal point, and the light level around the rest of the table remains intimate and not over-lit.

How much do pin spots cost?

Pin spot pricing is dependent upon a few factors:

• What is the timeframe for setup and takedown?
